Prop 1B Funds to Assist in Replacing 30 Buses in Solano County
From the first release of Prop 1B Transit Capital funds, the STA successfully secured $944,083 to purchase 30 new buses. The Prop 1B funds will be used as a local match for federal grants and TDA funds secured by local transit operators.
- Fairfield-Suisun Transit was awarded $400,000 to
purchase 5 buses
- Vacaville City Coach was awarded $240,000 to purchase 5 buses
- Vallejo Transit was awarded $304,083 to purchase 20 buses
The vehicles will be purchased during the next few years. STA will pursue additional Prop 1B Transit Capital funding when it is released in the future.
Transit Ridership Survey
The STA has retained Quantum Market Research (QMR) to conduct a Transit Ridership Study for all local Solano bus and intercity routes. This is a joint effort with Solano transit operators: Benicia Breeze, Fairfield/Suisun Transit, Rio Vista Delta Breeze, Vacaville City Coach, and Vallejo Transit/Baylink Ferry. The study includes an on-board passenger survey as well as counts of boardings and alightings.
QMR will begin the survey and counts the week of October 16, 2006 and is scheduled to complete the field work by November 10, 2006. This is the first comprehensive transit ridership survey and count to occur on all Solano transit operations simultaneously. The resulting data will assist with transit planning and financing by the transit operators and the STA. The Transit Ridership Study report is due to be completed in January 2007.
STA staff contact on this study is Elizabeth Richards who can be contacted at erichards@sta-snci.com.
