I-80/I-680/SR-12 Interchange Project

The STA and Caltrans are working on the Project Approval / Environmental Document (PA/ED) phase of the project, expected to be completed in the Spring of 2008. Recent work on the interchange includes auxiliary lanes built between I-680 and SR 12. Design and construction of the interchange will be conducted in phases between 2007 and 2030.

The STA, in partnership with Caltrans and FHWA, has developed and considered a wide variety of alternatives for the Project. At the meeting on March 14, 2007, the STA Board approved the public release of two alternatives that are recommended to be carried forward into the Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS), and to schedule a Public Information/Open House in April 2007 to receive public input.

A Public Informational Open House was held 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Rodriguez High School Multipurpose Room at 5000 Red Top Road in Fairfield.

I-80 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes (Fairfield)

I-80 High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes

The project will add approximately eight miles of HOV lanes in both directions and widen the median on I-80 from approximately Red Top Road to Airbase Parkway. The preliminary design and environmental work is scheduled to be complete by 2007. Construction is estimated to be complete by 2008.

In February, the CTC approved “Resolution CMIA-A-0708-007” which allocates $44.1M in Prop 1B Corridor Mobility Improvement Account (CMIA) funding for construction of the I-80 HOV Lanes in Fairfield. With a previously received $15.3M in federal earmark funding, these Prop 1B funds completely fund the construction phase of the I-80 HOV Lanes project.

I-80 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes (Vallejo)

I-80 High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes

The proposed project includes a westbound and eastbound High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane between SR 37 and the Carquinez Bridge, improvements to the Redwood Parkway/I-80 Interchange, a new Turner Pkwy. Extension Overcrossing, direct HOV Lane connections from a new Turner Pkwy. Overcrossing and an adjacent park-and-ride lot.

The next step to further studying these alternatives is to develop a Project Study Report (PSR).

Caltrans I-80 Pavement Rehabilitation Projects

I-80 Emergency SHOPP Repair

Caltrans District 4

Caltrans has over $140 million of State Highway Operations & Protection Program (SHOPP) rehabilitation projects programmed for I-80 between Vacaville and Vallejo. This project will start in Fiscal Year (FY) 2007-08 with work in the cities of Vacaville and Vallejo. This work will occur concurrently with the construction of the new I-80 HOV lanes project.

Approximately 4.5 miles of this project overlaps with the I-80 HOV Project: Red Top Road to Air Base Parkway, which is currently under design by the STA. Because of this overlap, the I-80 HOV Lane Project and this segment of the SHOPP Project will stage the work for coordination during construction. The overlay within the limits of the I-80 HOV lanes will occur after the I-80 HOV lanes construction is completed. Caltrans is still on schedule for this rehabilitation work.
