- May 4, 2010: 16th Annual Bike to Work Day May 13th
SUISUN CITY, CA - On May 13th the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) will host the 16th annual Bike to Work Day when Solano residents will pedal to work or school with nearly 150,000 Bay Area bicycle commuters.
"Bike to Work Day is the best day to try bicycle commuting for the first time," says STA program manager, Judy Leaks. "You get free snacks and water, a tote bag and the confidence of riding with thousands of other cyclists!" There are many ways to participate during this month.
- April 12, 2010: Nominations Sought for Solano County's Bike Commuter of the Year
Suisun City, CA - May is National Bike Month, and Thursday, May 13 marks the San Francisco Bay Area's 16th annual Bike to Work Day, a celebration of bicycling as a healthy, fun and viable form of everyday transportation.
Nominate a friend or co-worker who exemplifies the health, environmental, social and economic benefits of bicycling for their chance to be chosen as the Solano County Bike Commuter of the Year. Winners receive awards and great bike-related prizes. Nominations are accepted through April 19th at www.511.org. Last year's winner was Craig Snider of Benicia.

Suisun City, CA - The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) Board of Directors sent a contingent to Washington, DC this week to advocate for critical federal funding for Solano's priority transportation projects.
"This is a challenging time for Solano County with California in the midst of a significant state budget crisis and the fiscal uncertainty for near term federal and state transportation funding," said STA Board Chair Pete Sanchez.
- February 23, 2010: City of Rio Vista and Solano Transportation Authority Explore Options to Relocating Rio Vista Bridge
RIO VISTA, CA - The Solano Transportation Authority and the City of Rio Vista have been exploring alternatives for improving long-term transportation mobility on State Route 12 through Rio Vista and across the Sacramento River. The study is called the SR 12/Rio Vista Bridge Preliminary Study. Alternatives will be reviewed at a Community Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at White Elementary School in Rio Vista.

Suisun City, CA - The winners of the Solano Transportation Authority's 12th Annual Awards were announced at a ceremony on November 4, 2009. The event was held at the Jelly Belly Grand Bean Ballroom in Fairfield, with 175 people in attendance.
STA Chair and Solano County Supervisor Jim Spering said of the event, "Our theme this year was 'Progress through Partnership.' Suisun City, CA - The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) Board has authorized the release of the Draft I-80/I-680/I-780 Highway Corridor Study and Implementation Plan for public comment. The plan analyzes the performance and safety of Solano County's interstate highway corridors and recommends a variety of operations improvements as well as visual guidelines for landscape and hardscape treatments.
- July 10, 2009: Construction Begins on North Connector Road in Suisun City
Suisun City, CA - The North Connector, the first major roadway project to be delivered by Solano Transportation Authority (STA), broke ground Wednesday, July 8th.
In partnership with Solano County and the City of Fairfield, the STA’s North Connector project will provide local motorists in the Suisun Valley and Green Valley areas a practical alternative to taking I-80 for trips between State Route (SR) 12 East and SR 12 West. This, in turn, will help reduce congestion at the I-80/I-680/SR-12 Interchange by allowing local traffic to use local roadways and regional traffic to stay on I-80.

Suisun City, CA - Ridership increased 14% on SolanoExpress routes in the past six months according to a report released by the Solano Transportation Authority (STA). SolanoExpress routes encompass the seven major Solano intercity transit routes. The 14% increase from July through December was in comparison to the same time period in 2007.

Suisun City, CA - The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) Board of Directors appointed Solano County Supervisor Jim Spering as the new Chair of the STA, and Suisun City Mayor Pete Sanchez as the new Vice Chair for 2009. Supervisor Spering also serves as Solano County's representative to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Recently elected Dixon Mayor Jack Batchelor, Jr., and Rio Vista Mayor Jan Vick were also installed as new members of the Board.

OAKLAND, CA - The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) last week agreed to commit $9 million of regional bridge toll funds to complete the financing package for a new passenger rail station to be built at the corner of Peabody and Vanden roads in northeast Fairfield.

SOLANO - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) today announced
the completion of the Truck Climbing Lane on westbound State Route 12 (Jameson
Canyon.) The new lane will open to traffic on Thursday, December 4, 2008.
- November 26, 2008: Solano Employees Meet Commuter Challenge
Suisun City, CA - 39 major employers totaling 545 employees participated in the second annual countywide Solano Commute Challenge. Employer participation increased by almost 45% over last year's 27 major employers, and employee participation soared nearly 85% over last year's 296 employees. The Challenge is a targeted outreach campaign for Solano County employers sponsored by the Solano Transportation Authority to encourage employees to use transit, carpool, vanpool, bike, or walk to work at least 30 times from August to October.
- November 13, 2008: Solano Transportation Authority Announces Award Winners
Suisun City, CA - The winners of the Solano Transportation Authority's 11th Annual Awards were announced at a ceremony on November 12, 2008. The event was held at the Trilogy Clubhouse Ballroom in Rio Vista, hosted by the 2008 STA Board Chair, Rio Vista Mayor Eddie Woodruff. 170 people attended the ceremony.
- September 23, 2008: Vallejo Baylink Ferry Fare Reduction and Bus Connections
A new plan to reduce fares on the popular Vallejo Baylink Ferry has been developed to coincide with the startup of a new SolanoExpress/Baylink Route 78 and Local Route 5. The City of Vallejo has developed the plan in partnership with the Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA), the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), and Solano County. Operated by Vallejo Transit, this new and expanded service will provide improved access to Vallejo's Baylink Ferry Terminal.
- June 13, 2008: I-80 CONSTRUCTION FROM VALLEJO TO VACAVILLE
Public meetings to explain upcoming work on pavement repair, carpool lanes and median barrier projects on I-80 will be held in Fairfield on June 18 and in Vacaville on June 19. Caltrans public information, construction, and project management staff will explain the corridor work, specific projects, and impacts on commuters and residents during the construction. Residents will have an opportunity to view project displays and ask questions.
