STA Wins Award for Safe Routes to School Plan
The Solano Transportation Authority’s (STA) Countywide Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Plan is slated to receive the “Grassroots Initiative Award” from the Northern Section, California Chapter of the American Planning Association (NSCCAPA). The Solano Countywide SR2S Plan was selected from entries throughout the region, which spans from the Monterey coastline to the northern border of the state, and will be recognized on May 16 at the NSCCAPA 2008 Awards Program in San Francisco.

STA Wins Award for SR 12 Safety Campaign
The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) has received an award for its State Route (SR) 12 Safety Campaign from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). STA was recognized for their achievement of Award of Merit in the category “Public Safety Program or Campaign." CAPIO received 149 submittals statewide for their thirteen awards categories, which are designed to showcase outstanding communications strategies, products and skill.

Genentech Employees Rise to Solano Commute Challenge
In celebration of the 2007 Solano Commute Challenge, thirty-one employee participants from Genentech – Vacaville Campus will be recognized at a luncheon in their honor, on Friday, March 7, 2008, by Vacaville Mayor and Solano Transportation Authority Board Member Len Augustine and the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce.

Regional Transportation Plan Update Input Sought
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is updating its 25-year Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP addresses transportation needs for the entire 9-county Bay Area over the next 25 years. RTP funds are used for a wide variety of transportation expenses, such as local and regional transit, construction of new freeway interchanges and lanes including High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, park and ride lots, new regional commuter rail stations, and facilities for improving the flow of commercial rail and trucks through the area. MTC has identified $20 billion in transportation funding that needs to be allocated over the 25-year period of the RTP. Solano County’s share is up to $1.98 billion.

Caltrans Pavement Rehabilitation Work Begins on I-80
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has begun construction on the first of four projects to repave I-80 in Solano County. The first pavement rehabilitation project started this month from the Tennessee Street overcrossing in Vallejo to American Canyon Road.

Goodrich Employees Rise to Solano Commute Challenge
In celebration of the 2007 Solano Commute Challenge, twenty-two employee participants from Goodrich in Fairfield were recognized by Fairfield Mayor Harry Price and Solano County Supervisors Jim Spering and Mike Reagan on behalf of the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), and by Fairfield/Suisun City Chamber of Commerce Vice-president Mark Creffield.

California Vegetable Specialties Employees
Rise to Solano Commute Challenge
In celebration of the 2007 Solano Commute Challenge, fourteen employee participants from California Vegetable Specialties (CVS) in Rio Vista were recognized by the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) and the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce. Rio Vista Mayor and STA Chair Eddie Woodruff presented a proclamation recognizing their accomplishment to Rich Collins, owner of CVS. Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce President Linda Lannon presented recognition certificates to Cristina Parks, the on-site Commute Challenge Coordinator and CVS’ Most Outstanding Commuter.

Vallejo Kaiser Employees Rise to Solano Commute Challenge

Solano Transportation Authority Announces Award Winners
The winners of the Solano Transportation Authority’s 10th Annual Awards were announced at a ceremony on November 14, 2007. The event was held at the recently renovated Empress Theater in downtown Vallejo. 175 people attended the ceremony, which was emceed by KUIC’s Traffic Reporter, Cynthia Seats.
