Solano Transportation Authority Announces Awards Nominees

The nominees for the Solano Transportation Authority’s 10th Annual STA Awards were announced at the STA’s October Board meeting.

The 10th Annual STA Awards will be held at the recently renovated Empress Theater in Vallejo on November 14, 2007. All of the winners will be announced at the event, which will be emceed by KUIC’s Traffic Reporter, Cynthia Seats.

Celebrate Bike to Work Week – May 14-18

Residents curious about biking to work, school, or to transit can put their pedals to the pavement during the 13th Annual California Bike to Work Week, May 14-18, and be eligible to win great prizes. Enjoy a healthy way to commute while celebrating the wonderful springtime weather and saving some money on gas. Solano Napa Commuter Information (SNCI) is once again coordinating this year’s campaign in Solano and Napa counties with the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Fairfield Resident Awarded Solano County Bike Commuter Of the Year

Solano Napa Commuter Information (SNCI) and the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition are pleased to announce that Scott Morrison, a resident of Fairfield has been chosen as the 2007 Solano County Bike Commuter of the Year. Scott will receive his award on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 17, at the Energizer Station at the Government Center Plaza, 675 Texas Street, in Fairfield.

Vallejo Mayor Anthony Intintoli and Benicia Mayor Steve Messina Selected to Lead Solano Transportation Authority in 2007

$500,000 Grant Awarded to the County of Solano

The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) has awarded a $500,000 grant to the County of Solano for their Old Town Cordelia Improvement Project. The project is one of three Solano County projects awarded grants as part of the STA’s
innovative Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) program.

$1,000,000 Grant Awarded to the City of Benicia

The Solano Transportation Authority (STA) has awarded a $1 million grant to the City of Benicia for their State Park Road Bike and Pedestrian Bridge project. The project is one of three Solano County projects awarded grants as part of the STA’s innovative Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) program.

STA Initiates PSRs: SR 12/Church Road and I-80 HOV Lanes
Projet Study Report

In an effort to accelerate project delivery for major
highway projects in Solano County, the STA Board has
authorized the STA to pursue and sponsor completing
Project Study Reports (PSRs) for priority projects in
Solano County. The following is the "Priority List for
future Solano County PSRs to be conducted by the STA":

  • State Route 12 East - Church Road
  • Turner Parkway Overcrossing
  • West Bound I-80 HOV Lanes (Carquinez Bridge to SR 37)
  • East Boand I-80 HOV Lanes (Carquinez Bridge to SR 37)

STA Lands Federal Appropriations for Vallejo Station and Fairfield/Vacaville Train Vallejo Station and Fairfield Vacaville Train StationStation

In November, the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate approved and President Bush signed the 2005 Federal Appropriations bill for transportation, which included specific earmarks for two of the STA’s priority projects. Thanks to the sponsorship of Congressman George Miller, the Vallejo Station is slated to receive $850,000. Thanks to Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, the Fairfield/Vacaville Rail Station is scheduled to receive $500,000.

Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Board Approves Planned Train Service to Fairfield/Vacaville Station
Faifield Vacaville Train Station Development

For over three years, Capital Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) staff has been assisting the cities of Fairfield and Vacaville in the development, design and implementation of the planned Fairfield/Vacaville Train Station. On November 16, 2005, the CCJPA authorize Capitol Corridor trains to serve the planned Fairfield/Vacaville Train Station.

Assembly Budget Subcommittee Meeting held in Solano County

Assemblywoman Lois Wolk, D-Solano, who sits on the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Transportation and Information Technology brought this meeting to Solano County to discuss area specific transportation issues. The meeting featured reports by the director of Caltrans, Will Kempton; an overview of transportation issues in Solano County by Solano Transportation Authority Executive Director Daryl Halls; and a lengthy public comment period.

The awards recognize individuals, programs, activities and projects that have contributed to the continued success in “improving the quality of life in Solano County by delivering transportation projects to ensure mobility, travel safety, and economic vitality."

Regional Rail Plan for the Bay Area Round 1 Workshops scheduled

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, BART, Caltrain, and California High-Speed Rail Authority need your help developing a Regional Rail Plan for the Bay Area.

The Regional Rail Plan will identify and formulate strategies to:

  • Integrate passenger rail systems
  • Improve interfaces with connecting services
  • Expand the regional rapid transit network
  • Plan capacity improvements on the regional railroad system
  • Coordinate regional rail investments with transit-supportive land uses
  • Study potential Bay Area alignments for the California High Speed Rail System

SAFETEA Brings Federal Funds for I-80/I-680 Interchange and Jepson Parkway

Prior to adjourning for the August recess, Congress passed H.R. 3, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The bill provides earmarks for over $34 million for key Solano County regional transportation projects. The STA is the project sponsor for the earmarks for the I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange ($17.4 million) and the Jepson Parkway/Travis AFB Access Improvements ($3.2 million).

The earmarks for projects that will benefit Solano County are as follows:

  • I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange ($17.4 million)
  • SR 12 Widening through Jameson Canyon ($6.4 million)
  • Jepson Parkway/Travis AFB Access Improvements ($3.2 million)
  • I-80 HOV Lanes/Interchange Construction in Vallejo – Turner Overpass ($2.8 million)
  • Cordelia Pedestrian/Bicycle Corridors Upgrade ($2.4 million)
  • Winters Bridge Replacement between Yolo and Solano Counties ($1.6 million)
  • Rio Vista Bridge Study ($560,000)
